Why test buys win takedown appeals

A documented test purchase turns an argument about a listing into physical evidence. Platforms and payment processors both treat it as the strongest proof available.

What a test buy proves

Screenshots show what a listing claims. A test buy proves what the seller ships: no brand packaging, wrong materials, replica serial numbers, or a generic item in branded wrapping. That gap is the counterfeit case in one box.

Document the whole chain

Photograph the outer shipping label, the unopened package, the unboxing, and the product next to a genuine unit. Keep the order confirmation, tracking number, and payment record. Breaks in that chain give the seller room to dispute.

Use it beyond the marketplace

Test buy evidence travels. Payment processors, hosting providers, and domain registrars all accept it in abuse filings, and it carries far more weight than listing screenshots alone.

When to skip it

Test buys cost money and time, and obvious photo-theft cases rarely need one. Reserve them for high-volume sellers, appealed rejections, and cases heading toward payment or legal escalation.
